Mictoo is a free, no-signup audio and video transcription tool built for anyone who needs to convert speech to text quickly and accurately.

I built Mictoo because decent transcription should not require a subscription, an account, or any technical skill. Drop your file, get your text. That is the whole product.

Who built Mictoo

My name is Denis and I build and run Mictoo on my own. There is no team behind this, no investors, and no growth target. I have spent the past decade working on SEO, content and developer tools, and I built Mictoo because every transcription tool I tried was either gated behind a signup, slow, or annoying enough that I gave up halfway.

Running it alone shapes what the site is. Features ship when one person has time, and nothing here exists to satisfy a roadmap. It also means the email at the bottom of this page goes straight to my inbox rather than a ticketing system. I read everything that lands there.

What powers Mictoo

Mictoo runs on OpenAI's Whisper, the same speech recognition model used inside ChatGPT. Whisper large-v3 was trained on 680,000 hours of multilingual audio. It supports over 50 languages with automatic detection and is widely regarded as the strongest open speech model available. I serve Whisper through Groq's US-hosted API (whisper-large-v3) for speed and cost efficiency, with OpenAI's Whisper API kept as an automatic fallback if Groq is unavailable. Files are streamed directly to the transcription provider and never stored on Mictoo's servers. Neither Groq nor OpenAI uses API audio for model training, and OpenAI retains API data only for a maximum of 30 days of abuse monitoring before deletion.

Security and what happens to your file

Your audio or video file uploads to Vercel Blob storage, gets streamed to the transcription provider, gets transcribed, and is deleted. The whole round trip takes under a minute for most files, and at the end there is no copy of your file on my infrastructure.

The transcript is not saved either. It lives in the browser tab. If you want to keep it, hit the download button. Once you close the tab there is no record of what you transcribed. The only thing logged is an anonymous count of files processed, which is how I track usage and reconcile the provider bills.

If you are signed in, which is free and optional, the text of your past transcripts is kept for seven days so you can reopen them. The audio is never part of that. Anonymous transcription keeps no history of any kind.

How Mictoo makes money

Mictoo is funded by display ads on the marketing pages. Not inside the tool flow, and never between you and your transcript. Ads cover the hosting and the transcription API bills, which is the whole reason the free tier can stay free.

There is also a small Pro tier in the works, for people who need longer files, batch uploads or speaker labels. The free tier is not going anywhere. Most people transcribe a file every few weeks, and nobody should pay a monthly subscription for that.

I do not sell your data. There is no data to sell, because your files and transcripts are not stored. The only thing an advertiser learns about you is the usual coarse targeting, such as country and broad interests, and that is handled on Google's end rather than mine.

What I hold to

Free. No hidden costs, no trial periods, no credit card required for the core tool.
Private. Your audio is never stored. It streams to the transcription provider, gets processed once, and is gone. Signed-in accounts keep the text of past transcripts for seven days, never the audio.
Simple. One page, one tool, zero friction.
Accurate. Whisper large-v3, the strongest open speech model available, rather than something cheaper that would cost me less per file.

What I will not do

No dark patterns. No fake countdown timers, no "your file expires in 60 seconds, pay to download", no email walls in the middle of the upload flow.
No bait-and-switch pricing. The free tier is genuinely free. I will not retroactively gate something that used to be free.
No transcript reselling. Your transcripts are not stored, and there is no "training data" licence tucked into the terms.
No deceptive ad networks. Google AdSense only, never the networks that swap out your browser UI or hijack the back button.
No fake reviews. If you see Mictoo on a review site, it got there organically. I do not pay for placement and I do not write my own reviews.
